behemoth一词如今已经很常见，经常被用来指各种庞大的企业，如中国移动、中国石油之类的，意思类似于conglomerate.

而事实上，behemoth一词最早出现在《圣经》里面，在《约伯纪》（Book of Job）里曾经这样写道：

15 Behold now behemoth, which I made with thee; he eateth grass as an ox.
16 Lo now, his strength [is] in his loins, and his force [is] in the navel of his belly.
17 He moveth his tail like a cedar: the sinews of his thighs are wrapped together.
